No we cant do it.  init is used for initializing.  only after initializing , service method could be called.

how are u running servlets with tomcat 5.X versions.it is same with the Tomcat 5.5.12 but it supports jdk 5.0.I think if u wants to install Tomcat 5.5.12 u must need jdk 5.0 or j2sdk 5.0
