Without package we can generate a reports in Cognos by using Query Explorer. Using QE, we can drag a SQL icon from the toolbox, and go to properties, there you can see the datasource tab, then double click, it will open SQL query window, there you can?type?the customized SQL query.

How to limit the output in a report for testing?
Let us assume that I have to create a report whose output has 1 Million rows. When I create the report and run it may take several hours to show me the complete report. So can I limit the output to just 100 rows to save time while testing the report? Thanks in advance.

You can limit data by applying filter on some query item - for example if you have somany contract ids - you can apply filter contract id -1234

Security can be applied on the reports that will be generated at the Framework Manager level as well by giving rights to user, groups to the package or individual query subjects while publishing the package.
